We took Matt out to Beaver Run Raceway in Western PA to test out a Formula Renault. At 14, he does not even have a drivers license. He is a graduate of the Skip Racing School yet has never had the benefit of driving a sequential gearbox in a formula car. Matt can blister the track in a shifter kart which emulates a sequential gear box but certainly is not the same machine. So we took the test for what it was, a test. However, we had a hunch Matt would assimilate very quickly and we wanted a benchmark for Matt to chase. We hired one of the top 10 drivers of the 2003 season to join us at the track. Little did we know that Matt would be the one setting the bar turning faster lap times than our hired gun his first dance with the car.
Matt will continue to test the Formula Renault as the season progresses. From 80cc¹s to 180 horsepower, the "Kid" from Long Island certainly is fearless.
IF MATT LEE RAN FORMULA RENAULT RIGHT NOW, HE WOULD BE RUNNING IN THE TOP 10 BY VIRTUE OF HIS FIRST RUN IN THE CAR.
